Andy ReidAP

Even though Eagles coach Andy Reid has publicly distanced himself from (and reportedly isn?t happy with) Saturday?s politicking by agent Bob LaMonte, a source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that, within the organization, LaMonte?s comments are regarded as Reid?s comments.

?I don?t get into any of that,? Reid said Sunday regarding the Saturday back-and-forth between LaMonte and owner Jeffrey Lurie, via Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com.? ?I?m a one-day-at-a-time kind of guy, one year, one play, the whole deal.? So that?s not how I operate.? I don?t worry about all that.?

It?s believed that LaMonte?s claim of a verbal commitment by Lurie to keep Reid as coach for as long as Lurie is the owner were aimed at pressuring Lurie into extending Reid?s contract, which currently is due to expire after the 2013 season.

?Listen, we?re here to play, that?s what we?re here to do,? Reid said.? ?And I?m here to coach, that?s my job, and I understand the demands of the National Football League.? I got it.? I know the picture.? So I?m not worried about all that.?

But by using terms like ?any of that? and ?all that,? Reid necessarily is acknowledging the existence of ?that?; namely, a business side of the pro football industry that Reid specifically has hired LaMonte to handle.

So what else is Reid going to say?? ?Yeah, I believe I have a contract for life??? Reid has taken the savvy path, even though it?s not the first time LaMonte has tried to pressure the Eagles with no specific consequence from the man for whom LaMonte works.

Indeed, if Reid were going to completely disavow LaMonte?s words, Reid would have been more direct.? Or Reid would have ordered LaMonte to retract his comments.? Or Reid would have fired LaMonte.

All things considered, it should be regarded as shocking that LaMonte backed Lurie so far into a corner that Lurie had to issue a statement refuting LaMonte?s contention.? And it?s expected that Reid will do nothing to LaMonte.? It?s also expected that Reid will continue to recruit clients for LaMonte, who represents former Eagles assistant coaches like Steve Spagnuolo, Brad Childress, and Pat Shurmur, most current Eagles assistant coaches, and even G.M. Howie Roseman.

As a result, the Eagles will continue to believe that, when it comes to ?any of that? and/or ?all that,? Reid believes what LaMonte said about every last bit of that.

Here Is Some Different And Amazing Home Improvement Advice ...

If you cannot afford to hire a designer, start researching. Check out books, websites, magazines and books for inspiration and information. One layout in a magazine can be your inspiration for what you want your home to look like. These resources can also provide information for less expensive projects that you can do on your own.

Keep your furniture safe from drink spills and cup outlines by displaying coasters. Coasters are available in a myriad of designs and you are sure to find one to fit your taste. The most common places to use coasters would be your living room end table, coffee table, nightstand, and dining room table.

If it is at all practical, do repair-type home improvement projects as soon as you notice a problem. Much of the damage that occurs to your home is the sort that you can live with and soon forget. You must resist this impulse! The different systems of your home are closely connected and damage can spread with shocking speed. A small problem can become a big one faster than you can imagine.

Make sure to clear your gutters from leaves and debris in the fall. The combination of being clogged with leaves and freezing water can cause damage to your home and actually cause basement leaking. Since it is not something you see everyday as a reminder, make a note on your ?to do? list as soon as leaves start to fall.

Is your flooring looking a bit old? If you are ambitious, you can pull up your floor and lay down sticky wood flooring. While many may think this flooring is cheap, it is actually very nice. Additionally, this flooring is easy enough to lay down so that most people can do it on their own.

Light is a premium often overlooked in home improvement projects. There are far, far more rooms in the world that are too dim than there are rooms that are too bright. Adding more light fixtures is almost always a wise home improvement job, and often a fairly simple one. In more extensive renovation work, installing more windows accomplishes similar results.

If you?d like to update your home but can?t afford a remodel consider replacing your light fixtures. You?ve probably noticed areas that need better lighting, so, now is the time to address that problem. There are many designs to choose from. Be creative and go for a brand new look. Lighten up those dark areas in your home and switch out those dated styles by adding new lighting fixtures.

Look for cracks or shifting of your home?s concrete slabs or driveway. Slabs on the exterior should always be positioned so that any drainage that occurs faces away from your home?s foundation. Use crack filler to fill in any cracks, or use a silicone caulk. Next, power-wash and then seal.

If you are buying tools and equipment for a home improvement project, don?t cheap out on the essentials. For example, a cheaply-built ladder will often fall apart while being used and low-quality paintbrushes may shed bristles into the paint, leaving ugly marks on the walls. Aim for middle-grade equipment if you are on a budget, otherwise, you may be in for some nasty accidents.

Is your kitchen looking a little bland? One way to make your kitchen look good again is to put in new kitchen faucets. New faucets can make your kitchen really glow. Faucets add a touch of style and elegance to your home and are relatively inexpensive, making them an affordable way to add class to your home.

When you are getting ready to deep clean your deck, make sure you have all of your materials ready before hand. Some of the things you will need to get together are a pressure washer, a nice sturdy scrub brush, commercial deck cleaner, a hose, and a hefty broom you can use outdoors.

Always keep your work area clean when doing home improvements. Many accidents occur when an area is cluttered with debris and you cannot move and work properly. Take some time from your project and clean the debris from the area. This will help keep you safe from trips, falls, and tangled cords.

We have a home which is over 100 years old and updating it has been an ongoing process over the past five years. We have a new dining room, two new bathrooms and half of a new kitchen. Recently, my husband installed four new windows and put new siding on half of the house. I can?t wait for the whole thing to be done!

auto insurance-Niagara Falls | XJWSCGS

auto insurance Niagara Falls ON There are more cars and drivers hitting the road every year. With so many vehicles on the road, crashes will happen. The difference between a small aggravation and major pain can be car insurance. How can you decide what insurance you require and how to buy it? Auto insurance protects you by paying for damage or injury you cause others while driving your car, damage to your car or injury to you or your passengers from a crash, plus specific other occurrences, such as theft. Every state and province requires car insurance by law. Choosing to drive without insurance could cause you to repair or replace a stolen or damaged vehicle or pay the cost of any damage for which you might be responsible. It pays for damages due to bodily injury and property damage to others for which you are responsible. Bodily injury damages include medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering. Property damage includes damaged property and loss of use of property. If you are sued, it also pays your defense and court costs. Higher recommended insurances are available that cover more than the lower, state-mandated insurance. Personal injury protection: This is required in some states and is optional in others. Sometimes referred to as no-fault coverage, this pays the medical treatment for you or your passengers regardless of who was at fault. It may also cover lost earnings, replacement of services and funeral expenses. The minimum amount of this insurance is typically set by the state. Medical payments: This type of coverage is available in non-no-fault states and will pay no matter who is responsible for the accident. It pays for an insured person?s reasonable and necessary medical or funeral expenses for bodily injury from an accident. Collision: This pays for damage to your car caused by an accident. Comprehensive: This applies if your car is stolen or damaged by causes other than collision, including fire, wind, hail, flood or vandalism. Uninsured motorist: This pays for damages when an insured person is injured in a crash caused by another person who does not have liability insurance or by a person who cannot be identified (usually a hit-and-run driver). Under- insured motorist: This pays for damages when an insured person is injured in a crash caused by another person who does not have enough liability insurance to cover the full amount of the damages. Other coverage, such as emergency road service and car rental, is also available.Your auto insurance payments vary by company and will depend on several factors, including: * What coverage you select * The make and model of the car you drive * Your driving record * Your age, gender and marital status and * Where you live Some have come to think of auto insurance as a necessary evil, but it can truly rescue your economic health Evaluate your needs, research your options and with the support of your insurance agent choose the option that best suits you.

The first thing that should be given careful consideration is whether you are looking to drop just a few pounds or embark on an entirely new healthy lifestyle. Differences in the genomes of related plant pathogens

ScienceDaily (Aug. 12, 2012) ? Even in closely-related species, life-style moulds the genetic make-up of pathogens and how their genes are used.

Many crop plants worldwide are attacked by a group of fungi that numbers more than 680 different species. After initial invasion, they first grow stealthily inside living plant cells, but then switch to a highly destructive life-style, feeding on dead cells. While some species switch completely to host destruction, others maintain stealthy and destructive modes simultaneously. A team of scientists led by Richard O'Connell from the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research in Cologne and Lisa Vaillancourt from University of Kentucky in Lexington have investigated the genetic basis for these two strategies. The researchers found that pathogen life-style has moulded the composition of these fungal genomes and determines when particular genes are switched on. They also discovered surprising new functions for fungal infection organs.

Colletotrichum fungi cause rots and leaf spot diseases which are spread by wind and rain splash. They cause devastating economic losses on food and biofuel crops running into billions of euros each year. While some species attack many different plants, others are highly selective and attack just one host plant. The two species investigated by O'Connell and his colleagues differ in their life-style and their host specificity. One species preferentially attacks crucifers, including thale cress (Arabidopsis thaliana), a model plant important for biologists. Within just a few hours, this pathogen switches its metabolism towards the complete destruction of the plant cells. For this fungus, benign coexistence and massive destruction are separated in time. The other species studied is specifically adapted to maize. In one part of the plant it produces proteins to promote symptomless coexistence, while elsewhere it produces proteins to break-down and digest plant cells. In this case, the two life-styles are spatially separated.

The strength of this work, published in Nature Genetics, is that the researchers analysed both the genome and transcriptome of these two fungi. "The transcriptome reveals which genes are switched on and when. Several other fungal genomes have already been decoded, but never with such detailed information about if and when each gene is used during plant infection," says O'Connell. For example, both genomes have similar numbers of genes for hemicellulase enzymes, with which the plant cell wall is decomposed. However, the maize fungus switches on many more of these genes because the cell walls of maize contain more hemicellulose than do plants attacked by the Arabidopsis fungus. "This difference could not have been identified simply from cataloguing the numbers of such genes in the genome: transcriptome data are essential to obtain this information," explains O'Connell.

The genomes of the two pathogens are similar in size, but the Arabidopsis fungus accommodates more genes in its genome, probably as a result of its broader host range. A pathogen that attacks a single plant requires fewer genes than one which colonizes many different plants. This is especially true for "effector" genes, which are required by the fungus to protect itself from the plant's defense responses. Both fungi have remarkably large numbers of genes for producing secondary metabolites, which are small molecules with potential roles during infection. "We are not aware of any other phytopathogenic fungi that produce so many secondary metabolites," says Jochen Kleemann who, together with other colleagues from the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research in Cologne, was also involved the study. "The genes for these products are switched on very early on during infection and are therefore potential targets for plant protection. But first we need to understand more about the functions of these molecules," continues Kleemann.

The scientists also discovered previously unknown functions of the fungal adhesion organ, the appressorium. The appressorium is formed after a fungal spore lands on the leaf surface and builds up a high pressure, with which the fungus pushes itself into the interior of the plant cell, like a finger into an inflated balloon. "On a leaf, the adhesion organ switches on completely different genes than when it is located on a plastic surface. It must in some way recognize where it is," says O'Connell. The adhesion organ would thus appear not only to open the door into the plant cell, but also to sense the presence of the plant. "Appressoria were discovered almost 130 years ago, but it is only from our research that it has become clear that they also have a sensing function," says Kleemann.

The Green Knight: IMD Alumni Event in Boston

Last weekend was a wonderful trip to Boston, reconnecting with friends, classmates, colleagues, and professors!

I flew up Thursday night and spent Friday in business meetings downtown + catching up with a dear friend / former colleague in Somerville. Lacking a car was no problem because Boston has a very robust public transportation system.

Saturday I turned my attention to IMD, preparing and helping to set up for our opening dinner. We chose this particular weekend because it coincided with the opening weekend of the Academy Of Management's annual conference. I came up with the idea of hosting an IMD all-continent event last year when I presented at the AOM's annual conference and realized that ~1/3 of IMD's faculty were there as well. It is not often that we have so many IMD professors together in the US, so it seemed worth capitalizing on!

In all of North America we have the same number of alumni as there are in Switzerland - but we're obviously much more spread out here! We weren't certain how many people we could motivate to travel hundreds or thousands of miles for such an event but it was worth a try.

We were very pleased with the results: 60+ IMD alumni joined us at the opening dinner at The Top of the Hub, coming from the US, Canada, Mexico - and even some from Europe and Asia! Add to that number 12 IMD professors and some other honored guests and we had a nice group!

Dinner was very nice and a great chance to meet other IMD alumni in this part of the world. My class (2008) tied with 1982 for the most alumni in attendance (3) and it was fun reconnecting with my former classmates. Years go by but relationships pick up right where they left off! We shut down the restaurant, stopped in a bar for some Olympics watching, and then turned in way too late.

Sunday morning began very early. We had lined up seven excellent IMD faculty presentations at the Harvard Club of Boston so we needed plenty of time to squeeze them all in:

IMD President Dominique Turpin - Introduction to the day?s program
Professor Margaret Cording ? Identifying, Valuing & Capturing Strategic Synergies
Professor Bala Chakravarthy ? A New Type of Country Manager for Winning in Emerging Markets
Professor Martha Maznevski ? Developing Responsible Leaders Through Action Learning
Professor Michael Watkins - Moving Up: The Seven Seismic Shifts
Professor George Kohlrieser ? Care to Dare: Secure Base Leadership in Action
Professor Maury Peiperl ? What Makes a Global Leader Global?
Professor Suzanne de Janasz ? Beyond Juggling: Achieving a Sustainable Work-Life Balance

It was a long day but so packed full of great discussion and learning. It was like a shot in the arm, a reminder of what it was like to be at IMD, when every day covered so much ground that you felt almost like a completely new person by the end of it. As someone dedicated to constant self improvement I was grateful for such a "dense" opportunity to learn and grow. And besides, exhausted as we were by the end of it,?several of us still found the energy reserves to go out for drinks and plenty of seafood afterward!

It was an excellent weekend and I hope we can build on the success to bring more IMD activity to North America.
