Is Your Web Design Good Enough? | Tight Line Productions

In this day and age when it seems that we can hardly go a day without a computer or even the worldwide web, we surely have to make our presence known within this largely marketed stratosphere, called the Internet.

Many business owners resist using the Internet for business purposes ? either they feel they will be telling the whole wide world too much about themselves, or they just don?t want to get scammed. Yes, it?s true, like the real world, the Internet world is also full of scammers. But ? if you find a good, hard-working and trustworthy team, your Melbourne Fl web design, will stand out and boost your online presence.

A great website is more important now than ever. A common mistake that web designers make is that they want to fill the website with a lot of information and colorful design templates, flash animations etc. But sometimes, less is more. A lot more.

If you fill your website with tons of ?unnecessary? or excessive content, though possibly great-to-look-at photos, flash animations or even videos, you will suddenly start noticing your website becoming really slow. This will hurt you as far as SEO goes. The only solution is to clean your website of all the unwanted and unimportant modules. Tight Line Productions knows how to handle this scope of work.

HTML is a coding system programmers employ in their programming (also of websites). However, in the world of Web 2.0 with open source platforms (CMS) like WordPress, Joomla and Drupal, HTML has become less relevant in regard to web development. The major CMS platforms allow virtually anybody to create a respectable website.

It is not extremely hard to learn the basics ? for example modifying the font or the font size. You probably see this as one of the least important things pertaining to a website. Sometimes the basics are what?s most important. Think of the font size and the font color of a website. Imagine a website you visit frequently. Is this website full of articles, all written in the same font and the same ?regular? black font? Or does it have plenty of photos, ads and words in different font sizes and colors? Most likely the latter.

Individuals are quite different. But the majority of people are visual, which means that the majority of us respond to things (in our case words, photos, ads) that stick out. If you are maybe thinking of launching an online business or maybe launching a website for your existing business, don?t hesitate to write to contact us. You can leave it all to us, you just tell us your wishes, and then you are free to enjoy life, since we will take lead in presenting you and your business in the best possible light on the worldwide web.

A's win again on the road

Associated Press Sports

updated 12:21 a.m. ET Sept. 13, 2012

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - A.J. Griffin threw eight scoreless innings, becoming the second Athletics pitcher in 85 years to start his major league career with six straight wins, and Yoenis Cespedes homered for Oakland in a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night.

The Athletics, who can sweep the four-game series by beating Angels ace Jered Weaver on Thursday, have won 15 of 18 and are 22 games over .500 (82-60) for the first time since the 2006 club finished 93-69.

The A's won their 12th consecutive road game, matching the 1971 squad for the longest streak since the club relocated from Kansas City to Oakland in 1968. The franchise record is 14 in a row, set in May 1931.

Oakland's road winning streak is the longest in the majors since 2003, when Seattle won 13 straight away from Safeco Field.

Griffin struck out six and walked none in the longest of his 11 career starts. The 24-year-old right-hander, one of four rookies in the A's rotation along with Jarrod Parker, Dan Straily and Tommy Milone, lowered his ERA to 1.94 in his third start off the disabled list.

The only other A's pitcher since 1927 to win his first six decisions as a big leaguer was Jim Nash, who was 7-0 over his first nine starts in 1966.

Sean Doolittle gave up a leadoff homer in the ninth by Albert Pujols before Ryan Cook got the final out for his 14th save. Pujols, a three-time NL MVP, became the first player in history with 30 homers in each of his first 12 big league seasons. He also tied Stan Musial and Willie Stargell for 28th place on the career list with No. 475.

Ervin Santana (8-12) was charged with two runs - one earned - and four hits over six innings. He struck out six.

It was the eighth time this season that his teammates didn't score a run while he was in the game - including five straight starts by Santana in which the Angels were shut out.

The Angels got a scare in the fourth when Santana was struck on the right arm by a line drive off Josh Donaldson's bat. He scrambled after the ball in time to get the force at second base on Brandon Moss, then was allowed to take a few practice pitches to test his arm after manager Mike Scioscia and trainer Adam Nevala went out to check on him.

Oakland got an unearned run in the first when Josh Reddick doubled with two outs and scored on an error by shortstop Erick Aybar.

Cespedes made it 2-0 with his 18th homer leading off the sixth, ending a career-worst 22-game homerless drought. The A's tacked on two runs in the eighth with Derek Norris' RBI double and an RBI single by Coco Crisp.

The Angels ran themselves into an out in the third, when Chris Iannetta tried to advance from first to third on Mike Trout's single to center and Crisp made a perfect, one-hop throw to Donaldson.

NOTES: Santana has given up a major league-worst 35 homers, the most in his eight-year career. ... Rookie pitchers have 40 of the A's victories, four shy of the Oakland record set in 2009. ... A's starters have walked three batters or fewer in 41 consecutive games, tying the Oakland record set in 2001. ... The Angels haven't been swept in a four-game set by Oakland since the final series of the 2001 season, when they finished the schedule with a 2-19 thud. ... Pujols, relegated to DH duty the past 15 games because of a sore right calf, is hitting .317 with two homers and 10 RBIs during that stretch. ... Santana has not allowed a seventh-inning run in any of the last 32 starts in which he's pitched through the seventh. The streak began on Sept. 11, 2010. ... Aybar's error was his 13th, matching last season's total when he won his first Gold Glove.

Online Surveys For Money ? Finding Legitimate ... - Coast Business

Online compensated surveys for cash is an exciting way to make money online. But the whole procedure to get started on making constant earnings and finding good paying surveys is an stimulating process filled with both disappointments and gratifying surprises. On one hand, you would run into scams that pay out the comission nothing for all the efforts and time, whilst the gems reward you with great affiliate marketer payouts. You need to also need to discover ways to differentiate between the a pair of if you are going to make a number of serious earnings via online paid surveys.

A market study company is the one that addresses all the surveying of survey takers for their customers, the product and companies companies. There are many popular big names just like Global Test Market which offers internet compensated surveys. But it does not always insinuate that you could earn money with them. Allow me to explain. Big titles are reliable and do typically shell out on time. But the problem can be that these companies likewise have large databases involving ready survey takers. The idea gets very competitive to really earn paid survey sites using their surveys. With that being said, you should consider registering with them as a possible long-term revenue plan.

From time to time a number of scams for paid for surveys pop up on the Internet. There are several things which should raise red flags when you come across them. One red light is an over-enthusiasm to recruit new sign-ups. A lot of times, these operate on an MLM model and then there are huge rewards for members to bring in a new member. Sometimes you will come across well known companies do adopt a similar technique but if a survey site overdoes it, keep clear. Internet paid review companies should be worried about building their major business which is to generate good paid surveys if they are in for the long haul.

Many times these scam web sites normally build a nice and beautiful website with lots of survey offers within for pay-per-click offers, pay-per-email, pay-per-sample examination, pay-per-product/service trial, etc. A lot of them are only free gives where you sign up for the freebie or engage in free internet surveys to build up credits or funds. Payout is supposed to be manufactured when you earn a minimum amount. Unfortunately, a lot of such internet surveys internet sites are gone within only a year, leaving a lot of survey takers bewildered as well as disappointed.

The good news, there are other online survey companies that carry out pay their surveyors. A large number of are small niche sites to general review sites that offer surveys approximately $5 per completed online survey. Some paid review companies offer a broader range of paid surveys by means of focus group surveys, motion picture feedback surveys, shopping expertise surveys, etc. These type of surveys are generally more time consuming and would require you to depart your house. But they perform pay much better and can even pay up in order to $200 per survey. But how do you locate these kinds of survey companies?

A proven way is to spend your time seeking online, then signing up with each and every and trying them out and about. You can check at online earnings or make money forums for work at home men and women for such possibilities. Or better yet, you may get hold of a set listing or listing of online paid surveys organizations. Such listings generally contain hundreds of online review companies that have been examined to work and pay out well.

(AP) ? With a beloved ambassador dead and anti-American turmoil in Arab nations spreading, the presidential candidates are challenging each other's foreign policy credentials and squaring off over how the United States handles its place in the world.

At a rally Thursday in northern Virginia, Romney was expected to argue that the upheaval abroad showed the need for more American strength on foreign and domestic matters. He was ready to link both themes while maintaining a focus on the economy by accusing President Barack Obama's policies toward China of driving away U.S. jobs, campaign aides said.

Romney has suggested that Obama is weak and didn't react quickly enough to condemn attacks on U.S. missions overseas. He was backed up Thursday by the party's last presidential nominee, Sen. John McCain, who said the president's "feckless foreign policy" has weakened America.

Democrats have responded by suggesting that Romney is reckless and untested as a world leader, with Obama accusing him of having "a tendency to shoot first and aim later."

The campaign barbs came as protesters angered by an anti-Muslim film from a California filmmaker took to the streets and attacked a third U.S. mission this week. On Thursday, hundreds of demonstrators chanting "death to America" stormed the U.S. Embassy compound in Yemen's capital and burned the U.S. flag, replacing it with a black banner bearing Islam's declaration of faith ? "There is no God but Allah."

Those protests followed attacks in first in Egypt, where scuffles persisted Thursday between police and protesters near the U.S. Embassy in Cairo. They then spread to Libya, leading to the death of American Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans at the U.S. consulate. The Obama administration is dispatching two warships to the Libyan coast, ready to respond to any mission ordered by the president, who vowed Wednesday that "justice will be done."

Romney responded by criticizing Obama for having "a hit-or-miss approach" on foreign policy and tried to blame the president for an early statement from the embassy in Cairo that criticized the film as protests were forming. Romney incorrectly said the statement came after the embassy's grounds had been breached and added that the president is responsible for the words that come from his diplomats around the world.

"They clearly sent mixed messages to the world," Romney told reporters while campaigning Wednesday in Florida. "The statement that came from the administration was a statement which is akin to an apology and I think was a severe miscalculation."

Obama responded to his rival in an interview with CBS News' "60 Minutes" later in the day. "It appears that Gov. Romney didn't have his facts right," Obama said. He added that as president "it's important for you to make sure that the statements you make are backed up by the facts, and that you've thought through the ramifications before you make them."

Congressional Democrats spoke in sync with the president and accused Romney of mishandling international affairs and trying to politicize a tragedy. Republicans were less unified ? some questioned Romney's handling of national security measures and top GOP leaders in Congress did not echo his criticisms of the president. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said Obama "correctly tightened the security overseas." Asked about Romney's remarks, he declined to answer and walked toward his office in the Capitol.

But McCain agreed the embassy response was weak and accused Obama of compromising American influence around the world.

"I'd like to see the president of the United States speak up once for the 20,000 people that are being massacred in Syria," McCain told NBC's "Today" show.

Liz Cheney, who worked was a senior official at the State Department while her father was vice president, said in a Wall Street Journal opinion piece that Obama has weakened America on the economy and has "an even more dismal national security record."

"Apologizing for America, appeasing our enemies, abandoning our allies and slashing our military are the hallmarks of Mr. Obama's foreign policy," she wrote.

The unrest overseas abruptly shifted the campaign's focus from jobs and the economy to international affairs. That could benefit Obama, who is seen as weaker on economic issues but a leader on the world stage. An Associated Press-GfK poll taken before the party's nominating conventions found Obama, who ended the war in Iraq and led the killing of Osama bin Laden, with a big advantage as the stronger leader of the two candidates, 50 percent to 41 percent among registered voters. In an NBC/WSJ poll in August, 46 percent of registered voters said Obama would be a more "calm and steady leader in a crisis," while 34 percent said Romney would be better and 12 percent said both would be equally good. But the crisis could change Americans' view of Obama's leadership less than eight weeks before the election in a campaign that has remained close for months.

Economic concerns could play a more prominent role Thursday, when Romney appears at a rally in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C., and Obama campaigns in Colorado's Denver suburbs. Obama carried both states in 2008, but they remain up for grabs and heavily contested by both campaigns.

The Labor Department announced Thursday that rising gasoline costs drove up U.S. wholesale prices last month by the most in more than three years. The Federal Reserve also was expected to announce later in the day whether it plans to take new steps to jumpstart the U.S. economy. Many anticipate the Fed will launch a third round of bond purchases aimed at easing long-term interest rates and spurring borrowing and spending.

Dark energy is real, say astronomers

ScienceDaily (Sep. 11, 2012) ? Dark energy, a mysterious substance thought to be speeding up the expansion of the Universe is really there, according to a team of astronomers at the University of Portsmouth and LMU University Munich.

After a two-year study led by Tommaso Giannantonio and Robert Crittenden, scientists conclude that the likelihood of its existence stands at 99.996 per cent. Their findings are published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

Professor Bob Nichol, a member of the Portsmouth team, said: "Dark energy is one of the great scientific mysteries of our time, so it isn't surprising that so many researchers question its existence.

"But with our new work we're more confident than ever that this exotic component of the Universe is real -- even if we still have no idea what it consists of."

Over a decade ago, astronomers observing the brightness of distant supernovae realised that the expansion of the Universe appeared to be accelerating. The acceleration is attributed to the repulsive force associated with dark energy now thought to make up 73 per cent of the content of the cosmos. The researchers who made this discovery received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2011, but the existence of dark energy remains a topic of hot debate.

Many other techniques have been used to confirm the reality of dark energy but they are either indirect probes of the accelerating Universe or susceptible to their own uncertainties. Clear evidence for dark energy comes from the Integrated Sachs Wolfe effect named after Rainer Sachs and Arthur Wolfe.

The Cosmic Microwave Background, the radiation of the residual heat of the Big Bang, is seen all over the sky. In 1967 Sachs and Wolfe proposed that light from this radiation would become slightly bluer as it passed through the gravitational fields of lumps of matter, an effect known as gravitational redshift.

In 1996, Robert Crittenden and Neil Turok, now at the Perimeter Institute in Canada, took this idea to the next level, suggesting that astronomers could look for these small changes in the energy of the light, or photons, by comparing the temperature of the radiation with maps of galaxies in the local Universe.

In the absence of dark energy, or a large curvature in the Universe, there would be no correspondence between these two maps (the distant cosmic microwave background and relatively closer distribution of galaxies), but the existence of dark energy would lead to the strange, counter-intuitive effect where the cosmic microwave background photons would gain energy as they travelled through large lumps of mass.

The Integrated Sachs Wolfe effect was first detected in 2003 and was immediately seen as corroborative evidence for dark energy, featuring in the 'Discovery of the year' in Science magazine. But the signal is weak as the expected correlation between maps is small and so some scientists suggested it was caused by other sources such as the dust in our galaxy. Since the first Integrated Sachs Wolfe papers, several astronomers have questioned the original detections of the effect and thus called some of the strongest evidence yet for dark energy into question.

In the new paper, the product of nearly two years of work, the team have re-examined all the arguments against the Integrated Sachs Wolfe detection as well as improving the maps used in the original work. In their painstaking analysis, they conclude that there is a 99.996 per cent chance that dark energy is responsible for the hotter parts of the cosmic microwave background maps (or the same level of significance as the recent discovery of the Higgs boson).

"This work also tells us about possible modifications to Einstein's theory of General Relativity," notes Tommaso Giannantonio, lead author of the present study.

"The next generation of cosmic microwave background and galaxy surveys should provide the definitive measurement, either confirming general relativity, including dark energy, or even more intriguingly, demanding a completely new understanding of how gravity works."

NEW YORK (AP) ? Stocks edged up in early trading Tuesday, as investors look ahead to two events sure to move markets this week: a Federal Reserve meeting and a court decision on whether Germany can help support its struggling neighbors.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 70 points to 13,324 as of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Alcoa led the 30 stocks in the Dow, rising 2 percent, or 21 cents, to $9.26.

Federal Reserve officials gather for a two-day meeting on Wednesday. Many expect the Fed to take steps to revive the sluggish economy.

Germany's high court is expected to rule Wednesday on whether the country can participate in a European bailout fund. The court rejected a last-minute appeal to delay the decision.

In other trading, the broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose four points to 1,433. The Nasdaq composite edged up three points to 3,107.

On Tuesday, the Commerce Department reported that exports to Europe dropped 11.7 percent in July, stoking concerns that Europe's troubles could smother the U.S. recovery. Overall U.S. exports fell 1 percent to $183.3 billion, lowered by weaker sales of autos, telecom equipment and heavy machinery.

A profit warning from luxury clothing chain Burberry helped tug down other high-end retailers in early trading. Burberry said slowing sales to China will likely weaken earnings. Ralph Lauren lost $5.25 to $155.09. Tiffany & Co. sank 91 cents to $62.13.

Legg Mason jumped 4 percent following reports that its CEO will step down Oct. 1. Clients have been pulling money out of the money manager's funds, weakening revenue. Legg Mason's stock rose $1.09 to $26.58.

Gamification? Organisational Tamagotchi? Or Goodbye Productivity ...

Everyone is talking about Gamification. Even the aging analyst crowd are picking up their Atari VCS controllers and dusting off a copy of Pitfall to get in on the act.

It?s providing a welcome distraction just now and in fact it?s the very antithesis of doing work if in the wrong hands. And this is where the problem lies. Gamification at its heart is about engagement, whether it?s the end customer or the employee workforce but it?s the latter I?m more concerned with here. There is an explosion of workflow and enterprise task management tools which have been designed and built purely from a gamified perspective but I?m not convinced any thought has been given to actual productivity. And this is going to seriously damage the concept from the inside.

Already there was a very loud and public spat between two factions in the gamification camp which I wrote about this time last year and there are numerous startups launching or in beta phase claiming that their gami-productivity solution is here to solve the problem of completing boring and mundane tasks. I stumbled across one today which claims to let you set goals and save creatures from danger. Are we playing a game or actually trying to achieve a completed task list ? And when does the line cross from no longer being about the work but just about the game ?

At what point did Gamification become simply Tamagotchi ? Press ?Enter? to feed the CEO, Press ?Home? to tickle his tummy (ergh)

The other aspect of gamification that some are happy to ignore is the overuse of the reward system, implemented quickly with a bit of gloss it completely ignores what motivates a large proportion of human psyche. To cheat. I might be showing my age here but who remembers programming Peek and Poke commands to gain infinite lives or infinite ammo ?

As I wrote in a recent article, it?s human nature to quickly embrace a fun method of working but then as equally quickly to tire and bore of it once you?ve figured out the mechanics and for the clever of us, manipulate the scores. Gamification will collapse as a viable employee engagement method in a productivity context very quickly.

Don?t get me wrong, when this is applied correctly the message and engagement model can be incredibly powerful but this growing pseudo-industry is awash with casual players who have actually no clue what the core values are meant to achieve and are just in it for the short term hit. Given that a lot of activity is centred around productivity engagement you would think there would be some cross-over, collaboration and mutual knowledge sharing between other industries but this just isn?t happening, and so the proliferation of isolated startups are in danger of not only messing with the gamification value but also pissing off those who value productivity as an ultimate goal.

It also doesn?t help that along with the casual players come casual observers in the form of analysts who should have retired but like Ra?s Al Ghul manage to crawl to the Lazarus Pit for one more ill-informed research note.

What gamification needs in order to survive are more hardcore players. Those who actually aim to know every angle there is, explore every map of the industry, find those secret rooms where other people and ideas lie waiting to cross-pollinate. If gamification is about engagement, then practice what you preach.

Right now Gamification is a quick commercial hit but with little serious research into just how far the concept could take us beyond the basic application. The dissent in the ranks is because before the real understanding has occurred the invoices are flying out the door.

What we really need at this stage is a unification and collaboration into what it means to gamify, an authority in application and methodology, the basic frameworks to build upon and flesh out with open participation to create that standard.

Now someone pass me my controller, the Joker?s on the loose and Alfred?s just passed me a huge to-do list.
